Arsenal have revealed that Granit Xhaka will be out for the remainder of the year with a knee injury but is expected to be back in first-team training in the early stages of 2022.
The Switzerland international suffered a knee injury during his side's 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby at the end of September.
The midfielder has since missed Arsenal's last four Premier League matches, and according to the Gunners, he will not be available for selection until the early stages of next year.
"Granit is making good progress in the initial stages of his recovery from a medial knee ligament injury sustained on September 26," reads a statement on Arsenal's official website. "The current aim is for Granit to be back in full training early in the New Year."
The 29-year-old was strongly linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium over the summer, with Roma believed to be close to signing him at one stage.
However, Xhaka ultimately remained with Mikel Arteta's team and signed a new deal until June 2024.
