Arsenal win appeal against Gabriel Paulista red card

Arsenal win their appeal against Gabriel Paulista's red card at Chelsea on Saturday.

Arsenal have won their appeal against the red card that was awarded to defender Gabriel Paulista in the defeat to Chelsea.

The Brazilian was dismissed in the first half of the Gunners' 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge on Saturday by referee Mike Dean after striking out at Blues striker Diego Costa.

Arsenal made it clear on Monday that they would be appealing the decision because they felt that Gabriel had been wrongly sent off.

"Arsenal's claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Gabriel has been upheld following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing," the Football Association said in a statement.

"The player's three-match suspension has, therefore, been withdrawn with immediate effect."

Gabriel is currently subject to a separate FA charge of improper conduct in relation to Saturday's game and has until 6pm on Thursday to respond.
