Ian Wright: 'Kroenke does not care'

Ian Wright says that Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke needs to shoulder part of the blame for the club's woes this season.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has claimed that majority shareholder Stan Kroenke needs to take partial responsibility for the club's current woes.

Arsene Wenger's side were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Manchester City in the EFL Cup final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

Questions have been asked about the manager's longevity at the club for some time, but despite protests from fans, Wenger was offered a new two-year deal last summer.

From Wright's perspective, enough is enough, and the former striker thinks that American businessman Kroenke is not putting the club's needs first.

"The owner has to take a lot of blame for this. Kroenke does not care. If he cared, Wenger would not have got a two-year deal," the retired footballer told BBC Radio 5 live.

"Everyone else can start to see that is it getting to a point where Wenger needs to go. The owner has to be here, find out what is happening, how is this working, what are we going to do, how are are we going to get back to where the fans want us to be.

"The fans have been saying it for years but no-one is paying any attention to them. The owner has not done anything and has given Wenger carte blanche to carry on.

"There is no accountability for the players, there is no consequence for their poor performances or their inconsistency so they will carry on what they are doing."

In the Premier League, Arsenal are at the back of the race for top four as they sit sixth in the standings, 10 points adrift of the Champions League spots.
