Robert Pires: 'Mesut Ozil has proven doubters wrong'

Arsenal legend Robert Pires claims that Mesut Ozil has silenced the critics with his form this year.

Arsenal legend Robert Pires has claimed that Mesut Ozil has proven his critics wrong since his return to the side.

The Germany international, who became the club's record transfer in the summer window of 2013 when he signed from Real Madrid for £42.5m, has had his form questioned for most of his Arsenal career.

However, the playmaker returned to the side back in January after four months out through injury, and Pires believes that the ex-Los Blancos star has finally quietened the doubters with his performances.

Pires told Arsenal Magazine: "I am so glad that he proved his critics wrong.

"Too many people have criticised him this season and overall since he arrived at Arsenal. I train with him regularly and I can tell you that he is one of the best players I have seen.

"He loves this club and cares a lot about it. He wants to win trophies here and wants to make the fans happy, like he did against Liverpool."
