Arsene Wenger: 'Big spending gives us chance'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that his side have a real chance to win the Premier League title following their big spending over the past year.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger feels that his side's recent big spending in the transfer market has evened out the battle to win the Premier League title.

In the past year, the Gunners have spent over £100m signing players such as Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers after years selling their best assets.

Wenger feels now that his side can compete financially with the rest of the title challengers, they have a better chance of winning the top-flight crown.

He told reporters: "I would say the balance of power, in the Premier League, is a bit more even than it was five or six years ago.

"That's because of Financial Fair Play, added to us having more financial power than five years ago. It gives us a better chance. Until recently, we'd come into seasons knowing it was about who might be leaving, not coming. I was sitting here and thinking, 'Who will go next'?

"But we managed to get in a better position. It's a vicious circle. Once you get great players in, everyone wants to stay."

Arsenal won their first trophy in nine years last season when they lifted the FA Cup.
