Paul Merson: 'Arsenal should move for Mauricio Pochettino'

Club legend Paul Merson feels that Arsenal cannot miss out on an opportunity to appoint former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager.

Former midfielder Paul Merson has claimed that Arsenal should make an approach for ex-Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino.

With Unai Emery under pressure to keep his job at the Emirates Stadium, a wide range of names have been suggested as a replacement for the Spaniard.

However, Merson feels that the Gunners should focus their attention on trying to appoint Pochettino, who was sacked as Spurs manager last week.

The Englishman told Sky Sports News: "Arsenal should go for Mauricio Pochettino. He's not won anything, but he improved Tottenham over five years, tenfold. He's a top manager and he is about at the moment.

"I know he managed at Tottenham, but George Graham had been at Arsenal when he went the other way. You've got to get past that sort of stuff. These top managers don't come along too often, where you don't even have to pay anything for them.

"Can I see it happening? No. Should it happen? Yes. But it won't happen."

Pochettino is expected to take a break from the dugout before taking on his next job.
