Paul Lambert: 'Aston Villa won't go down'

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert backs his side to avoid relegation but reveals that he is still trying to add to his squad before the transfer window closes.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has admitted that he is still trying to add to his squad in the transfer window – but claimed that his squad are too good to get relegated.

The Villans' poor form continued with a 5-0 hammering from Arsenal on Sunday.

Speaking after the game, Lambert said that he was trying to bring in more signings ahead of Monday evening's deadline after backing his squad to avoid the drop.

He told Sky Sports News: "We have definitely got enough to stay up. If we can do one or two signings then we will try. I am looking for anybody who can improve the side.

"It is disappointing, when you don't score you don't win games. You have to keep working hard in training and hopefully it turns around.

"We came into this game with confidence after last week and we have to keep our confidence up."

Villa haven't scored in the Premier League since their 1-1 draw with Manchester United back in December.
