Barcelona boss Xavi insists that he has no concerns over Robert Lewandowski's slow start to his career with the club.

Barcelona boss Xavi has insisted that he is not concerned by Robert Lewandowski's slow start to his career with the Catalan giants.

The Poland international made three appearances for Barcelona during their pre-season tour of the United States, featuring against Real Madrid, Juventus and New York Red Bulls.

The centre-forward is yet to get off the mark for his new club, drawing another blank against the Red Bulls on Saturday, but Xavi is confident that the new arrival will soon hit the goal trail.

"He has been scoring in training, as the ball was going in yesterday and then today it didn't, but it's normal," Xavi told reporters.

"The same thing also happened with Luis Suarez and Ferran Torres when they arrived. He is going to score goals, even though he brings much more than goals."

Xavi also said that he has been "very happy" with how his side have performed during the pre-season tour, with the Catalan giants now closing in on a return to competitive action.

Barcelona will face Pumas in the Joan Gamper Trophy on August 7 before beginning their 2022-23 La Liga campaign at home to Rayo Vallecano on August 13.

"I'm very happy with how the tour has gone as we've worked well physically. Each of the matches presented different challenges and I'm happy," Xavi told reporters.

"We have two more weeks until the start of the season, so we'll train hard in order to compete well. We'll try to be competitive in all competitions this season. I'm optimistic because of the players we have. I wish you could see how good they are in training."

Barcelona have already made five signings during this summer's transfer window, bringing in Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Raphinha, Lewandowski and Jules Kounde.

However, the club continue to be linked with Chelsea duo Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, and Xavi has said that more new players could arrive before the end of the window.

"I don't if there will be more, it all depends on the financial fair play and the finances," Xavi added. "There will be exits and I've been clear about that.

"I think I'm 99% sure about [the final squad list] and most players know too. We have spoken to the players whose future we've decided."

Barcelona will take on Rayo, Real Sociedad and Real Valladolid in the opening month of the new La Liga campaign before starting September with a trip to Estadio Ramon to face Sevilla.
