An advisor to Barcelona president Joan Laporta hints that Lionel Messi could return to Camp Nou in the near future.

An advisor to Barcelona president Joan Laporta has suggested that Paris Saint-Germain attacker Lionel Messi could return to Camp Nou in the near future.

Messi was forced to leave the Catalan giants on a free transfer last summer due to the club's financial problems, and he signed a two-year deal at PSG.

The Argentina international has scored seven times and registered 11 assists in 26 appearances for the French giants but has largely struggled to show his best form in Paris.

Barcelona boss Xavi recently opened the door for Messi to return to the club, and Enric Masip, who acts as an advisor to Laporta, has said that "nothing is impossible" when questioned on the forward's future.

"Nothing is impossible, unlikely situations happen in life," Masip told Cadena SER. "Xavi's words were misunderstood. It wasn't a nod as such.

"It was probably one of the most beautiful periods [for the club], but things went the way they did and he chose a project in Paris. What may have seemed to be collapsing here in Barcelona, the team has survived and has worked well."

Messi's father is believed to have recently contacted Barcelona to discuss a possible return to Camp Nou, while the South American's family are said to be keen to move back to Spain this summer.
