Bristol City have announced that the club have terminated the contract of striker Diego De Girolamo by mutual consent.
The 22-year-old had been on a season-long loan at League Two outfit Chesterfield but the club today recalled the player before releasing him.
The Italian only made one appearance during his 18 months at Ashton Gate, and scored once in 12 league appearances in the fourth tier.
In a statement on their website, Bristol said: "De Girolamo, a former Sheffield United attacker, is now free to pursue opportunities at other clubs outside of the transfer window restrictions.
"Everyone at Ashton Gate would like to wish the youngster all the very best for his future career."
De Girolamo came up through the ranks at the Blades, having joined their youth setup at the age of seven, but has been restricted to just 37 appearances in the third and fourth tiers of English football since 2012.
