Former Leicester City manager Dave Bassett believes that Rafael Benitez could be offered the permanent role at Chelsea.
The Spaniard was appointed as the club's interim coach yesterday and will have his position at Stamford Bridge reviewed in the summer.
"You make it plain you are in charge," Bassett told BBC Radio Five Live. "If the staff and players take liberties, they find themselves out of work pretty quickly. If Torres scores 30 goals before end of the season, there is a good chance he will be in the job full-time."
Reports have claimed that former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has already agreed in principle to take over at Chelsea at the end of the season.
