Chelsea's assistant boss Roberto Di Matteo has insisted that the club's relationship with the FA Cup can give their season a lift.
The Blues have won the competition six times, with Di Matteo admitting that a cup run would aid their league campaign.
"When you have a cup run it gives you confidence. It can lift the environment and the atmosphere," Di Matteo told the Daily Mail.
"Against Liverpool in the fourth round we were losing at home at half time and turned it round. We went on to win the cup and it was a big moment of change in fortune."
Chelsea, who have won five of the last 15 FA Cup finals, face Portsmouth in the third round on Sunday afternoon.
