England boss Roy Hodgson has no doubts that Ashley Cole deserves a positive reaction from the crowd when he wins his 100th international cap.
The Chelsea defender will reach his ton of appearances for the Three Lions when they face Brazil on Wednesday, and will become only the seventh Englishman of all time to earn that landmark.
While the 32-year-old has not always been the most popular player among the fans, Hodgson has urged the supporters to show Cole the respect that he deserves.
"I deal with Ashley the footballer, the man I know on the football field, who I know as an England player, who is trying to help me win matches," said Hodgson.
"I see no reason for England fans not giving him the credit and reception and the admiration he deserves playing his 100th game.
"If you are an England fan and don't respect or love someone for doing that, then that's your problem and not his."
Cole made his England debut against Albania in March 2001.
