England boss Roy Hodgson refuses to make "bold predictions" about how far the Three Lions can progress.

England boss Roy Hodgson has insisted that he is not prepared to make "bold predictions" about how far the Three Lions can progress over the next few years.

Hodgson has admitted that he is "confident" that the players are on the right track, however, as they bid to secure qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

"It is far too early in my time with the team to start making bold predictions about where we are. I think that these players are confident that we are on the right track. I think it is in us to quality and to continue to get better," he told reporters.

"To win a tournament you need a functioning team, a team that has confidence in itself and players who have confidence in each other and you need a few results behind you to get that confidence."

Hodgson was talking at a press conference ahead of Wednesday's international friendly against Brazil.
