Everton confirm £28m Romelu Lukaku signing

Everton sign Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea on a five-year deal for a club record of around £28m.

Everton have confirmed the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.

The Belgium international striker spent last season on loan at the Toffees, and manager Roberto Martinez had been trying to secure the powerful frontman on a permanent switch.

That deal has now come to fruition and the signing of Lukaku is believed to be a club-record outlay of around £28m, with the 21-year-old inking a five-year contract at Goodison Park.

He said: "I'm really excited to be re-joining Everton, I had a fantastic experience last season and a great relationship with the manager, the chairman, the staff and the players.

"I have a good relationship with the players. This is the place where I belong. I decided quickly I wanted to come back. Here I have the trust of the staff and supporters."

The deal marks the second contract signing for the Blues this week, after Ross Barkley put pen to paper on a four-year extension on Tuesday.

The move was initially delayed after a paperwork issue, and the news was officially announced around 8.40pm, despite the press conference being called for 7pm.

Lukaku finished the season as Everton's top scorer with 15 Premier League goals.
