AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso has confirmed that Gonzalo Higuain is on his way to Chelsea and says that he "accepts" the striker's decision.
The Argentina international has been dropped from the Rossoneri's squad for Monday's match against Genoa as he closes in on a switch to Stamford Bridge.
Reports in Italy and England suggest that Higuain's move to Chelsea could go through early next week, with the Blues reaching an agreement with the player's parent club Juventus over an initial loan deal.
Gattuso is disappointed that the 31-year-old's short spell at San Siro did not turn out better, telling reporters: "I accept his decision. Surely he could have done more and maybe we could have helped him fit in better.
"I want to be honest with you all. We had a poor training session today due to all these rumours. We spoke after the training session and I did not consider him ready for this game."
Alvaro Morata will reportedly join Atletico Madrid once Higuain officially becomes a Chelsea player.
