Liverpool are reportedly set to rival Chelsea for the signing of RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku.
Although Nkunku is contracted with Leipzig until June 2026 after signing an extension in June, he is being heavily linked with a move away from Germany at the end of the current season.
A recent report indicated that Chelsea are hoping to secure a deal to sign Nkunku before the World Cup begins in November.
However, according to The Sun, Liverpool could make an attempt to hijack Chelsea's bid after sending scouts to watch the 24-year-old perform in Leipzig's 2-0 Champions League victory over Celtic last Tuesday.
Despite showing an interest in signing the France international, there is a feeling among Liverpool's hierarchy that it will be difficult to beat Chelsea to the player's signature.
Since joining Leipzig in July 2019, Nkunku has scored 57 goals and provided 48 assists in 152 appearances for the club.
