Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel says that Thiago Silva could earn himself another one-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has said that Thiago Silva could earn himself another one-year contract at Stamford Bridge if he enjoys a strong campaign for the club.

The 37-year-old has been in impressive form for the Blues in the early stages of the 2021-22 season, scoring once in four appearances in all competitions.

Silva's existing deal at Stamford Bridge is due to expire next June, but Tuchel has suggested that the Brazilian could potentially stay for another season beyond this one.

"It's on him. He has to perform at this kind of level and that's all he needs. It's as easy and clear as that. When you play for Chelsea, you need to deliver and that is what he is doing. He is a top professional and if he wasn't, it wouldn't be performing at that level for many years," Tuchel told reporters.

"The only question we have to ask at the end of the season is this: Is he at the level to compete for Chelsea in every competition? We don't have to answer that right now."

Silva has made 38 appearances for Chelsea since arriving on a free transfer in August 2020.
