Alan Pardew: 'We deserved to beat Liverpool because of our ambition'

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew believes that his side deserved to come away from Anfield with all three points from their Premier League clash against Liverpool.

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has said that his side's ambition was rewarded in their 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

The Eagles took the lead in the first half through Yannick Bolasie, but Philippe Coutinho brought Jurgen Klopp's men level just before the break.

The second half proved to be an even contest, but Palace pushed for the winner late in the game and earned the three points when Scott Dann bundled the ball home from close range.

Pardew told the club's official website: "I thought it was a terrific game, we made the decision to take the game to Liverpool and got ourselves the first goal. For 15 or 20 minutes we forgot our gameplan. We needed half time.

"We didn't score in the period early in the game, we scored right at the end of it and that was our mistake really, because we backed off at that point and for 15, 20 minutes, we let Liverpool dominate us. But at half time, I thought we could win the game. That was the message and my players delivered.

"The win felt good, it was a really great game, a top, top Premier League game. As an away team, we just deserved to win. I've played in the Europa League and I thought Liverpool might be a bit sleepy. No matter what you do, with a team that has a journey like that, it's difficult. But our ambition was rewarded with that late goal."

Palace moved up to eighth place in the Premier League as a result of their win.
