John Terry could be in line to feature for England during their friendly with Spain at Wembley on Saturday.
Terry had been named in the squad but was expected to sit out the Spain match to allow Fabio Capello to look at different defenders.
Everton centre-back Phil Jagielka was expected to start, but has since fractured a toe and his participation will be confirmed when he meets up with the squad.
Capello now only has Joleon Lescott and Gary Cahill as central defenders as Phil Jones has moved to midfield, meaning that Terry is likely to feature at least on the bench.
Terry is currently being investigated by the FA and the Metropolitan Police over allegations that he racially abused Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.
