Everton defender Phil Jagielka has insisted that he is not guaranteed a place in England's squad for next summer's World Cup.
Jagielka has established himself in the centre of England's defence, but the former Sheffield United man has revealed that he is refusing to get excited about the prospect of appearing in Brazil until later in the season.
The 31-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It's a bit difficult to get too excited at the moment because the squad isn't going to be announced for a number of months and there is still a lot that could potentially go wrong.
"On one hand, you are tremendously excited and proud to be part of the team that's got there, but you might not be the one getting on the plane.
"I'm sure that as the months pass, and hopefully I am still playing well for Everton, then the excitement levels will crank up towards the summer."
Jagielka has made 23 appearances for England since making his international debut in 2008.
