The Premier League confirm that the Boxing Day match between Burnley and Everton is postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak in the Everton squad.

The Premier League match between Burnley and Everton scheduled to be played on Boxing Day has been postponed due to an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Everton squad.

The cancellation means that three of the nine scheduled top-flight matches for December 26 have now been called off due to coronavirus.

Burnley vs. Everton follows Liverpool vs. Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Watford, which were both postponed on Thursday due to outbreaks in the Leeds and Watford squads.

The match was due to take place at Turf Moor at 3pm, but a mixture of coronavirus cases and injuries have left Everton without enough players to fulfil the fixture.

"The Premier League Board has this morning regrettably approved Everton's request to postpone their Boxing Day away fixture at Burnley," read a statement on the Premier League website.

"The Board reviewed the club's request today to postpone the match following further injuries to their squad. They concluded that the club will not be able to fulfil their fixture this weekend as a result of an insufficient number of players available to play due to COVD-19 cases and injuries."

Burnley, who have not played since December 12 due to postponements, are due to be back in action against Manchester United on December 30.

Everton, meanwhile, are due to host Newcastle United on the same day, although that match is now in serious doubt.

Thirteen Premier League games have now been postponed during the latest wave of coronavirus.
