Sports Mole takes a look at who impressed during the goalless draw between Everton and West Bromwich Albion at Goodison Park.

Tony Pulis maintained his unbeaten start to life as West Bromwich Albion manager this evening as his side held Everton to a goalless draw at Goodison Park.

The only clear chance of the game went the way of the hosts, but Kevin Mirallas missed a penalty having controversially taken it ahead of Leighton Baines.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at who impressed during a intriguing contest.

EVERTON

Goal

Joel Robles: Had almost nothing to do throughout. No shots on target, just one corner and very little threat otherwise. (6/10)

Defence

Seamus Coleman: Faced with Berahino, who stuck to his defensive duties well. Played more like a winger than a full-back, but was guilty of a few poor deliveries into the box. (6/10)

John Stones: Was the player who looked most like grabbing the game by the scruff of its neck. Brought the ball out from defence on a number of occasions and set up a few good attacks that way. (7/10)

Phil Jagielka: West Brom offered very little going forward, but that was more to do with their own tactics than Jagielka's performance. A comfortable evening for the England man. (6/10)

Leighton Baines: Should have taken the penalty in the first half, but Mirallas took it off him. Tested the keeper with a swerving drive early on but could not help his side find a breakthrough. (6/10)

Midfield

Muhamed Besic: One of his side's better players. Could focus more on his attacking duties than defensive ones due to West Brom's lack of threat, and always looked to make something happen in the final third. His withdrawal was met by a chorus of boos. (7/10)

Gareth Barry: Not exactly a game that played to his strengths. He enjoyed a quiet evening in terms of defensive chores but lacked the creativity to make a difference where Everton really needed it today. (5/10)

Kevin Mirallas: Controversially took the penalty off Baines, and then compounded his side's recent troubles by missing it. Was taken off at half time, although Roberto Martinez insists that was due to an injury. Even so, his selfishness cost his side today. (4/10)

Ross Barkley: Tried to make things happen with a couple of driving runs, but often they took him down cul-de-sacs which led to him losing the ball. Was also sloppy in possession on too many occasions. (5/10)

Steven Naismith: Never stopped running, but that was not going to be enough today. Got very little joy against the West Brom defence and ultimately put in an ineffective display. (5/10)

Attack

Romelu Lukaku: Showed a couple of glimpses of his recent improvement, but failed to provide the sort of threat required to break through a stubborn defence. (5/10)

Substitutes

Bryan Oviedo: Came on for Mirallas at half time and had little more impact than the man he replaced. (5/10)

Arouna Kone: His arrival was greeted by boos when he replaced Besic, and he didn't have time to turn himself into the hero during his short cameo. (6/10)

WEST BROM

Goal

Ben Foster: Was very well protected by those in front of him. Only had to face four shots on target, and each was a routine stop for him. (7/10)

Defence

Andre Wisdom: Part of a monumental defensive display to keep Everton at bay. Also had a chance at the other end in the first half, only for his touch to let him down. (7/10)

Gareth McAuley: Did a great job keeping Lukaku quiet apart from one instance in the first half when he was turned. A vital part in keeping Everton out. (7/10)

Joleon Lescott: Conceded the penalty when the ball bounced up against his arm, but got away with it due to Mirallas's miss. Went on to help his side to a hard-fought clean sheet. (7/10)

Chris Baird: Barely got forward at all as West Brom spent much of the time camped in their own half. Did keep Naismith quiet, though. (7/10)

Midfield

Chris Brunt: Much like many of his teammates, his contribution in the opposition half was minimal as he helped to keep Everton out with a brilliant team defensive display. (7/10)

Claudio Yacob: Soaked up relentless pressure from the hosts, protecting his back four magnificently at times. A big part in West Brom's performance, and the type of display that will delight Pulis. (8/10)

James Morrison: Yet another body for West Brom to get behind the ball. His own influence on the game was severely limited, but he was not the only one to sacrifice himself for the team tonight. (7/10)

Craig Gardner: Was the midfielder who looked to get forward most often, but still Anichebe was stranded a lot. Helped to pack out the visitors' half under heavy pressure, though. (7/10)

Saido Berahino: Deployed in an unfamiliar role on the left wing in an attempt to quell the influence of Coleman. Stuck to his task diligently and was very disciplined throughout. Would have answered many questions Pulis may have had over his temperament. (7/10)

Attack

Victor Anichebe: Had a relatively thankless task up front on his own with little service or support, but did a good job under the circumstances. Held the ball up well and provided an outlet for his side. (7/10)

Substitutes

Stephane Sessegnon: Gave his side something different when he came on. Looked to get on the front foot and made some important contributions to help relieve the pressure. (7/10)

Graham Dorrans: Replaced Berahino and helped his side to see out the clean sheet despite relentless pressure from the hosts. (6/10)

Brown Ideye: Was given the final 10 minutes or so but didn't have a chance to show much. (6/10)
