Everton have beaten Southampton 2-1 in their Premier League match at Goodison Park.

Seamus Coleman fired Everton into an early lead when he cut inside from the right before bursting into the box and hitting a powerful strike into the top corner beyond Kelvin Davis.

Luke Shaw worked a good opening for himself, but could only place his effort from just outside the box wide of the goal.

As the game approached half time, Adam Lallana had a good chance to score, but after weaving his way into the box, he fired an effort past the post.

In the 70th minute, Gaston Ramirez equalised for the away side when he hammered in a powerful strike from long range that Joel Robles failed to keep out.

Southampton were level for less than three minutes as Romelu Lukaku put the hosts back into the lead when he latched onto James McCarthy's pass, before firing the ball into the top corner.

Lukaku almost scored his side's third of the game late on, but his powerful low strike was pushed wide by the keeper.
