Leeds United: 'No Lewis Cook release clause'

Leeds United rubbish a report by a local newspaper that claims midfielder Lewis Cook has a £5m release clause in his contract.

Leeds United have dismissed the suggestion that midfielder Lewis Cook has a release clause in his contract.

The Yorkshire Evening Post recently claimed that interested parties could sign the 19-year-old for just £5m.

However, the Championship club have now released a statement in which they "categorically deny" the presence of any such stipulation.

"Leeds United would like to categorically deny reports that have emerged in the local press this morning regarding a supposed release clause in the contract of Lewis Cook," it read.

"The claim by the Yorkshire Evening Post, which the club feels was published with damaging intentions, is entirely inaccurate and unfair reporting. No release clause whatsoever exists in the contract of the player in question."

Cook has made 34 appearances in all competitions this season, from which he has scored two goals.
