Kasper Schmeichel: 'Nigel Pearson deserves credit for team spirit'

Kasper Schmeichel believes that former boss Nigel Pearson was key to building the team spirit which has served Leicester City so well this season.

Kasper Schmeichel has claimed that former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson deserves some credit for the team spirit in the resilient squad.

Claudio Ranieri's side are the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League this season, and they fought back from two goals down to beat Aston Villa and draw with Stoke City in their last two league games.

Despite being sacked after steering the club away from the relegation zone, Schmeichel believes that Pearson's influence can still be felt behind the scenes.

"We shouldn't have to come back but it is just testament to the spirit and the character of everyone," the Foxes goalkeeper told reporters. "The likes of Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki epitomise what we are all about.

"We work hard for each other and we are a team. It is a pleasure to be a part of this team.

"It's testament to partly the previous manager, the players he brought in and the spirit and the mentality, but also the new manager has come in and tweaked things here and there."

Leicester secured their progress in the League Cup on Tuesday night with a 2-1 extra-time win over West Ham United.
