Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Everton

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League meeting with Merseyside rivals Everton.

Liverpool head into the Merseyside derby with Everton on Saturday evening looking to build on their return to form in the Champions League earlier this week.

Despite ongoing criticism since the turn of the year, Jurgen Klopp's team delivered one of their best performances of the season to win 2-0 at RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

However, at a time when the club sit 13 points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City, Klopp continues to deal with widespread issues regarding team selection.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the 289th competitive meeting with their neighbours.

Fabinho

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: February 28 (vs. Sheffield United)

Fabinho has missed the last two matches due to what Klopp has described as a "little muscle issue". With the Brazilian yet to return to training, he will not come back into contention until next week.

James Milner

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: February 28 (vs. Sheff Utd)

Having being withdrawn during the early stages against Leicester City on February 13, Milner was subsequently ruled out of the trip to Leipzig. Klopp has revealed that the veteran will remain out of contention for the weekend, suggesting that he could return against Sheffield United.

Joel Matip

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Matip will miss the rest of the season due to an ankle injury he picked up in January, leaving Liverpool without their top three centre-backs for the majority of the campaign.

Naby Keita

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: February 20 (vs. Everton)

Despite having recently returned to training, Keita was never in line to return against his former club on Tuesday night. There is a chance that he could be in contention for the meeting with the Toffees, which comes more than two months since his last outing.

Diogo Jota

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: February 28 (vs. Sheffield United)

At a time when most of the talk has been about Liverpool's defenders, Jota has also spent a lengthy period in the treatment room. While the Portuguese is making good progress, the attacker will not return until the final day of the month at the earliest.

Joe Gomez

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Gomez is still some way away from returning to first-team action, having suffered a serious knee injury while away with England in November.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Klopp has played down growing hope that Van Dijk could return before the end of this season, with the centre-back still working his way back from a knee injury he sustained last year.
