Steven Gerrard still a "couple of weeks" away from return

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard says that he remains a "couple of weeks" away from returning after a hamstring injury.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed that he is still a "couple of weeks" away from returning to first-team duties.

The 34-year-old has missed the Reds' last two games after suffering a hamstring injury in last week's 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

"I think I'm a couple of weeks away from returning to playing, but it's settled down well," he told ITV Sport.

"I don't really want to put a target game on the injury. I think next week will come too soon."

Brendan Rodgers's side face Southampton at St Mary's on Sunday, before hosting Manchester City at Anfield a week later.
