England sweat on fitness of Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge

Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge are both doubtful for England's upcoming double-header at Wembley after picking up injuries with Liverpool.

England manager Roy Hodgson is waiting for updates on the fitness of Liverpool pair Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge ahead of the upcoming international double-header.

Both men failed to complete the full 90 minutes on Saturday as the Reds thrashed Fulham 4-0 at Anfield, with the midfielder and the striker being replaced in the 67th and the 76th minute respectively.

The duo are now a doubt for England's friendly with Chile at Wembley on Friday as Gerrard is suffering with a hip problem, while Sturridge has a foot injury.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers told reporters: "Steven was a wee bit stiff around his hip and he needs to be assessed.

"They are going to have a look at Daniel, too. He has some soreness and actually hurt his foot against Fulham. I just have to see how he is with the medical guys."

England host Germany next Tuesday in a friendly.
