Lille’s Joe Cole aims to win back England squad place

Lille's Joe Cole believes there is "no reason" why he could not win a place in the England squad after completing a loan move from Liverpool in the summer.

Joe Cole believes that he can claim back a place in the England squad after making a season-long loan move to Lille from Liverpool.

The 29-year-old, who joined the Reds on a free transfer from Chelsea last year, is confident that playing regular football in France will help secure him a position in Fabio Capello’s side.

"I've won everything in England and had a successful career,” Cole told BBC Sport.

"In 10 games I'll be back playing my best football and I see no reason why I won't get back in the [England] team."

The midfielder admitted that he has no regrets over moving to Merseyside despite failing to make an impact in the first team.

"It didn't work out at Liverpool and I can't fault them one bit," he added. "I wouldn't blame anyone. There are many reasons and I knew from fairly early on that things would be difficult.”

The former Chelsea player last appeared for England as a substitute during the side’s 4-1 defeat to Germany in the 2010 World Cup.
