Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp refuses to confirm or deny whether Steven Gerrard will return to the club in a coaching capacity having brought an end to his playing career.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has refused to confirm whether or not Steven Gerrard will return to the club in a coaching capacity.

Gerrard brought an end to his illustrious career earlier this afternoon and has been heavily linked with a Liverpool comeback having spent the vast majority of his playing days at Anfield.

Klopp paid tribute to the 36-year-old, but when asked about the prospect of Gerrard becoming part of his coaching team, the German suggested that a decision had not yet been made.

"I am only here 14 months. How can I be the person who can say how big these people are? I met Stevie already, he is a great person. He is far away from wanting to be a legend or handled like a legend. He is a completely normal guy," he told reporters.

"It's nice having him around so good to hear he is back in town. All the rest, we will see. I watched a lot of football in my life and saw Steven Gerrard playing, so yeah, quite good. I'm sure you won't be surprised to say this is not the room where I want to speak about [Gerrard's future].

"When there is something to announce we will announce. One day in the future there will be something to announce, that's pretty sure too. Until then there is nothing to say. The door is always open for him. From our side, if he wants to make whatever career then we want to help him. That's how it is. Nothing else to say and maybe that was too much."

Gerrard made 710 appearances for Liverpool, helping the club to eight major trophies including the Champions League crown in 2005.
