Tributes from the world of football have flooded in after Steven Gerrard announced his retirement from playing
The midfielder has called time on a 19-year career, the majority of which was spent as an influential figure at Liverpool.
On Merseyside, Gerrard won eight trophies, including the Champions League and two FA Cups, but the Premier League title eluded him during his time in England.
On an international level, the midfielder earned 114 caps and he was handed the captain's armband for two years before stepping down from England duty after the 2014 World Cup.
The final 18 months of the 36-year-old's career have been spent in the United States, where he played for MLS outfit Los Angeles Galaxy.
After the announcement was made, Gerrard's fellow professionals and former teammates paid their tributes on Twitter.
