Everton manager Roberto Martinez is planning an audacious swoop on local rivals Liverpool for midfielder Joe Allen, according to reports.
The 23-year-old Wales international has failed to secure a regular first-team place at Anfield since moving from Swansea City in 2012 and has only started seven Premier League games this season.
However, the Sunday People claims that Martinez, who gave Allen his debut as a teenager at Swansea, is pondering a summer move for the player with Gareth Barry's future beyond the end of the season far from certain.
It is thought that the midfielder would fit the Spaniard's style of football and is a viable alternative, should Barry fail to commit his long-term future to the Goodison Park club once his loan expires.
Liverpool paid around £15m to bring Allen to Anfield and was Rodgers's first signing as Liverpool manager.
