Phil Thompson: 'Jurgen Klopp will excite Liverpool fans'

Phil Thompson believes that the enthusiasm of Jurgen Klopp will ignite Liverpool supporters with passion once again following their underwhelming start to the season.

Phil Thompson has claimed that Liverpool supporters will be ignited with passion by the impending arrival of Jurgen Klopp.

The German is expected to be announced as Brendan Rodgers's replacement at Anfield after reportedly agreeing a three-year deal with the club.

Thompson believes that Klopp's enthusiasm on the touchline, displayed in his time with Borussia Dortmund, will help bring the club back to life following their underwhelming start to the season.

He told Sky Sports News: "There's a long way to go in this season and with Klopp coming in he will ignite the Liverpool fans. He will make every game special.

"We've seen him on the touchline with the Dortmund fans in that end of theirs which is like the Kop. His welcome will be exactly the same from the Liverpool fans away at Tottenham and then the European game at home [to Rubin Kazan] will be electric."

Klopp is expected to sign his contract in a press conference tomorrow morning.
