Jordon Ibe, Jon Flanagan agree new Liverpool contracts

Liverpool youngsters Jordon Ibe and Jon Flanagan put pen to paper on fresh terms at Anfield.

Jordon Ibe and Jon Flanagan have signed new contracts at Liverpool to end speculation over their respective futures.

The news comes just hours after the agent of Raheem Sterling claimed that the star winger will not be putting pen to paper on fresh terms of his own.

Nineteen-year-old Ibe has become an instant hit at Anfield this season upon returning from a loan spell at Derby County, making 13 senior appearances for the Reds in the second half of the campaign.

"Liverpool are a great club and I like the philosophy here," the Manchester City-linked midfielder told Liverpool's official website. "I'm over the moon. It's something I've been looking forward to.

"I've spoken to the gaffer and I'm happy it's over and done with. Now I just want to kick on into next season, as well as the last game of this one. I'm enjoying it - I've just been brought into the first team and I've enjoyed the games I've played in. Hopefully I can just keep doing well at the club.

"I have been given the chance to play quite a few games and I've enjoyed it. As I said, I just want to take that into pre-season and then next season, continuing with how it's been since I've been back here."

It has been a frustrating campaign for Flanagan, on the other hand, with not a single first-team appearance to his name due to injury.

The England international is now expected to miss a further nine months, but he has been rewarded for previous performances with a contract extension of his own.

"He has got a long road ahead of him over the next four to six months but I'm sure he'll get his rewards at the end of that," manager Brendan Rodgers said.

"We're hoping that he can get back fit within the next year; it has been a long journey for him this last 18 months and in particular the last year of injury. Hopefully he can get back fit and get back into the team."

It is believed that Ibe has agreed a five-year deal, while Flanagan has extended his current terms by a further 12 months.
