Liverpool are reportedly in talks with Boubakary Soumare's representatives regarding a summer move for the Lille midfielder.
The 21-year-old came close to joining Newcastle United in January, only for the French club to knock back the £35m offer.
According to journalist Duncan Castles, Newcastle are still interested in signing Soumare, but they face strong competition from Premier League champions-elect Liverpool.
The Reds are said to have been in touch with the France Under-21s international's agent and are hopeful of striking a deal with Lille.
Soumare had been a regular for Les Dogues since joining from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, but he has recently fallen out of favour and could be available for a cut-price fee.
Castles suggests that the £35m offered by Newcastle at the turn of the year would now be enough to land the midfielder.
