Mark Lawrenson: 'Manchester City's Premier League run perfectly timed'

Manchester City's Premier League title success is well deserved, according to former Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson.

Former Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson has admitted that Manchester City were the best team in the Premier League this season following their coronation as champions today.

The Blues scored the most goals of any team in the top flight this season and, despite being pushed by Liverpool until the final day, Lawrenson insists that their championship success is well deserved.

He told BBC Sport: "The best team always wins the league over the course of 38 games. Manchester City timed their run at the season's climax absolutely perfectly. Everybody has played extremely well and everybody was fit at vital times.

"Liverpool ran them close and will improve next season with the players they will undoubtedly sign, but this has been an excellent Premier League season all told. Manchester City should get all the credit they deserve."

City's 102 goals this season was just one short of the top-flight record, set by Chelsea when they won the league title under Carlo Ancelotti in 2010.
