Manuel Pellegrini backs Edin Dzeko to make impact

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini backs striker Edin Dzeko to make an impact in the absence of the injured Sergio Aguero.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that he has been impressed with the efforts of striker Edin Dzeko.

Dzeko has spent a frustrating time on the bench due to the form of Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo, but after Aguero was sidelined until 2014, Pellegrini has backed the Bosnian to have an impact in the starting lineup.

The 60-year-old told ESPN: "Edin Dzeko is working very well every day.

"He couldn't play more because Sergio and Alvaro were scoring goals and the team were playing well, but you saw last Tuesday that he played and he scores two goals."

Dzeko has scored nine times in 18 appearances for Manchester City this season.
