Real Madrid have reportedly failed with a bid to sign Benfica youngster Joao Felix ahead of city rivals Atletico Madrid.
After scoring 19 goals during his first campaign of senior football, Felix has been attracting interest from a number of European clubs, including Atletico and Manchester City.
The La Liga side are allegedly in pole position to get a deal over the line, although Marca say that there was an official approach from Los Blancos.
The report claims that Real were willing to pay €80m (£71.47m) up front and €50m (£44.67m) in add-ons, only for Benfica to maintain that they were only prepared to accept the 19-year-old's €120m (£107.21m) release clause being paid in full.
That is something which Atletico are willing to do, leaving the Wanda Metropolitano as the expected destination for the newly-capped Portugal international.
