Raheem Sterling 'told to wait by Manchester City for new contract'

A report claims that Raheem Sterling must wait until the end of the season before opening discussions with Manchester City over an improved contract.

Manchester City have reportedly pushed back contract talks with 20-goal attacker Raheem Sterling until the end of the season.

The England international still has two years left to run on his existing deal at the Etihad Stadium, which he signed upon joining the club from Liverpool in 2015.

City have delayed opening talks with the 23-year-old over fresh terms and, according to The Sun, no discussions are planned until the summer at the earliest.

Sterling is said to be holding out for a huge boost to his wages to bring him in line with the Citizens' top earners, with Kevin De Bruyne currently on £280,000 a week.

European champions Real Madrid are understood to be monitoring the contract situation closely and could come forward with a bid in the summer window.
