Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford emerges as a doubt for Saturday's Premier League clash with Bournemouth due to illness.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is a doubt for Saturday's Premier League clash with Bournemouth at Old Trafford due to illness.

The 26-year-old is the all-time leading goalscorer in matches between Man United and Bournemouth, having found the back of the net on five occasions against the Cherries.

However, Man United have said that Rashford missed Friday's training session due to illness, making him a doubt for the visit of Andoni Iraola's side on Saturday afternoon.

Even if the academy product is available, he is unlikely to be in the XI, having been dropped to the bench for Wednesday's 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Premier League, only featuring as a late substitute against Mauricio Pochettino's side.

A difficult season to date has seen the forward manage just two goals and four assists in 19 appearances in all competitions, but Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag backed Rashford to find his form in the not too distant future while addressing the media during Friday's press conference.

"Rashford is an incredibly good player. You can't do it with 11 players. Also, he can't play every game. He is not, in this moment, in the form he was last year but I am sure he will get there," Ten Hag told reporters.

The Man United head coach was also asked about the team's form in general, with six wins from their last eight league matches leaving them only three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in the table.

"We know where we are going and we had our setbacks, especially at the start of the season, a lot of things went against us - with injuries, with decisions," he added.

"Sometimes as a team you find yourself in such a place and you have to deal with it. Then you have seen the character of the team. But we fought back, and I think we are now in a better place.

"We are in better form, you see the performances are increasing, we are improving as a team and as individuals. You see you get a stronger belief, but we also know we have to be very sharp in every game because we also know that this league is very competitive.

"You see it in the recent results, this week as well. Everyone kills everyone, so you need to be ready for every game."

Man United will also be missing Victor Lindelof on Saturday due to the knock that he suffered during the first half of the narrow win over Chelsea last time out.

Raphael Varane is available again after a back issue, while Mason Mount and Amad Diallo are now back in training after recovering from injuries.

However, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen remain on the treatment table for the 20-time English champions.
