Chris Smalling acknowledges that he misses being a part of Manchester United, while also suggesting that he is enjoying his time on loan at Roma.

Defender Chris Smalling has suggested that he still misses being at Manchester United, despite enjoying his loan period at Roma.

After a nine-year spell at Old Trafford, Smalling has been allowed to spend the current campaign at Stadio Olimpico.

While the Englishman has made a positive impression in Serie A, the 29-year-old has acknowledged that it has taken him time to adjust to life away from the north-west of England.

When quizzed on whether he misses United, Smalling told talkSPORT: "I do, because I was there for so many years and I was used to be being part of the furniture there.

"But I am enjoying my new chapter, and hopefully I can keep affecting performances on the pitch and we can have a successful season. Right now I'm really enjoying being in Italy."

Smalling has made a total of 10 starts for Roma in all competitions.
