Wayne Rooney eyes future managerial role

Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney reveals his desire to move into coaching or management when he hangs up his boots.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has revealed that he has started taking his coaching badges with one eye on life after football.

Rooney burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old in 2002 and has since gone on to make almost 600 senior club appearances, scoring 262 goals.

The 30-year-old is also the joint most-capped outfield player in England history, as well as his country's record goalscorer, and he is keen to use that experience to help others in the future.

"I've started taking my coaching badges now so that will probably take about four or five years to complete," he told Manchester radio station Key 103.

"Of course I've got a lot of experience playing football so I think it would be criminal If I didn't try and pass that knowledge on so hopefully when I finish playing I can get some role as a manager or coach and try and use the experience I've built up over the years."

Rooney is currently just four goals behind Sir Bobby Charlton in the list of United's all-time top scorers.
