Dwight Yorke: 'Manchester United need a player like Anthony Martial'

Manchester United have been missing a positive forward like Anthony Martial, according to former player Dwight Yorke.

Dwight Yorke has claimed that Anthony Martial provided Manchester United with the qualities that they had been missing in attack during his debut against Liverpool yesterday evening.

The teenager, who joined the Red Devils on transfer deadline day from Monaco in a deal worth a potential £58m, came on as a second-half substitute at Old Trafford and he went on to seal the 3-1 victory with a late goal.

"When you come to United, your start is important. Not a lot of people expected this from him and were not quite sure what to expect from this type of player. But, he showed what he is all about," former United striker Yorke told Sky Sports News.

"We haven't seen this type of thing at United for a couple of years, where a player is taking on defenders in the heart of the defence. Okay, they say he's been a bit fortunate in terms of [how he got through to score], but he was prepared to take on defenders. His finish and the composure he showed was outstanding."

Reports have suggested that Martial could be in line to make his first United start during Tuesday's Champions League tie away at PSV Eindhoven.
