Wayne Rooney believes the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United will put more pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to win the Premier League title.

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford will put more pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to win the Premier League title.

The Red Devils announced on Friday that they have agreed a deal with Juventus to re-sign the 36-year-old forward, 12 years after leaving Old Trafford for Real Madrid.

After an impressive summer in the transfer market, which has also seen Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane join the club, Rooney has admitted that there will be no excuses if the Norwegian fails to mount a title challenge.

"Cristiano is still one of the best players in the world and has won titles everywhere he's been so he's going to be huge. He still wants to be the best and I'm sure he will have a big impact on them this season," the Derby County head coach told the Daily Telegraph.

"Ole will certainly know that he's in a position now where he needs to start winning these big titles with the players that he's brought in. For their development, to get to the next step now is to start winning titles."

United claimed their second league victory of the new campaign when they secured a slender 1-0 victory away at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, setting a new all-time English football record by extending their unbeaten record on the road to 28 matches.
