Chelsea reportedly remain optimistic that they can secure the season-long loan signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

Chelsea have reportedly continued to hold negotiations with Atletico Madrid regarding the potential signing of Saul Niguez.

Earlier on Tuesday, it was suggested that Chelsea were not interested in committing to an arrangement where they would have to pay a fee for the Spain international in 2022.

However, The Athletic claims that the European champions are still pursuing a deal for the 26-year-old.

While Chelsea are still prepared to discuss a season-long loan with the option to buy, they will likely attempt to lower Atletico's previous demands of £34m.

Despite holding a long-term contract at Wanda Metropolitano, Saul has been made available for transfer with Atletico looking to reduce their wage bill.

Previous suitors Manchester United are no longer participating in the race for the player's services.
