Manchester United are reportedly considering a surprise move for free agent Fernando Llorente in order to bolster their attacking ranks.
The Red Devils are expected to offload Romelu Lukaku this summer, with Inter Milan now leading Juventus in the race for the Belgian striker.
Lukaku is attempting to force through a move and has been fined by the club for missing training without consent while United hold out for a bigger offer from the Italian teams.
Should a deal materialise then Marcus Rashford would be the only senior centre-forward in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad, leading United to look for extra cover beyond playing the likes of Anthony Martial or Alexis Sanchez through the middle.
The 20-time English champions are thought to be in talks with Juventus over a transfer for Mario Mandzukic, but Sky Sports Italy reports that they are also considering a move for former Tottenham Hotspur striker Llorente.
The 34-year-old is a free agent after leaving Spurs at the end of last season and can therefore be signed beyond Thursday's 5pm transfer deadline.
United could yet face competition for his signature from Tottenham, who are reportedly still considering offering the Spaniard fresh terms if they fail to find other cover for Harry Kane before the window closes.
