Massadio Haidara feels that there is enough quality in the Newcastle United squad to finish in the "top six" next season.

Newcastle United defender Massadio Haidara has insisted that the club should be challenging for the "top six" in the Premier League next season.

The Magpies only just avoided relegation last season, just 12 months after they had qualified for the Europa League by finishing fifth.

However, despite their narrow miss, Haidara has claimed that there is enough quality in the Newcastle squad to finish high up the table again.

"We have not had a team meeting to set out the objectives for next season yet but my own personal hope for the team is the top six," Haidara is quoted as saying by the Northern Echo. "I think we have the qualities to do that and I know many of the other players feel the same.

"Obviously we will sit down in the summer to discuss what our aims and hopes are but we should be aiming for that, in my opinion. We are a big enough club to be fighting for a top six place and Europa League."

The 20-year-old joined Newcastle from Nancy in January.
