Championship duo interested in prolonging Frank Lampard's career?

Frank Lampard could be offered a route back into Premier League football by Newcastle United or Brighton & Hove Albion should either earn promotion, a report claims.

Championship sides Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly prepared to offer free agent Frank Lampard a one-year playing deal should they earn promotion to the top flight.

The ex-England international is currently mulling over his future in the game after announcing his decision to leave New York City FC last week, bringing to an end his 16-month Stateside stint.

Lampard is said to be unsure whether to prolong his playing career or instead make a move into coaching, with MK Dons among those rumoured to have shown an interest, but The Express claims that the 38-year-old could be offered a Premier League lifeline by one of Newcastle or Brighton.

Both sides are battling it out for promotion from the second tier and see Lampard as an influential figure who can still play a big part on the field despite his age.

The same report suggests that the former Chelsea midfielder would prefer a club closer to his London base, but he has previously played under United boss Rafael Benitez during his time at Stamford Bridge.
