Alan Pardew refutes claims of Mathieu Debuchy Newcastle United exit

Alan Pardew insists that Mathieu Debuchy does not want to leave Newcastle following claims that he was unsure of his future at the club.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has rejected reports that Mathieu Debuchy could leave St James' Park at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old was quoted by a French radio station as claiming that he is unsure whether he will still be playing for the Magpies next season.

However, Pardew has insisted that the defender is "happy" at the North-East outfit and that he was misquoted.

"I don't think the quotes are accurate, something can get lost in translation," the Daily Mail quotes Pardew as saying. "I have spoken to him, he is very happy at the club, he signed for four years and he is an important player who has done well and improved as he has gone along.

"I have no worries about those comments. You do never know in football. We are looking to change and strengthen in a lot of position next year but that won't be one of them."

Debuchy moved to Newcastle from Lille last year.
